ViDA explained for “dummies” (or those who don’t have 4 hours to spare)

Have you heard about ViDA everywhere but don’t really understand how it affects your business? Don’t panic. Let’s forget the legal jargon and get to the point.

The concept:

ViDA is the European Commission’s major project to bring VAT into the digital age.

The goal?

To eliminate VAT fraud and simplify life for businesses (yes, really, we promise).

ViDA is based on three main pillars (it’s that simple):

1️⃣ DRR (Digital Reporting Requirements): Gone are the days of casual monthly summaries. From now on, information about your intra-Community transactions must be sent to the authorities in near real time. This marks the transition from “reporting” to “live data.”

2️⃣ The Platform Economy: If you sell via platforms (such as Airbnb, Uber, etc.), the status changes. The platform becomes the “presumed supplier” and manages VAT on your behalf in certain cases. The goal: to ensure that no one slips through the tax net.

3️⃣ Single Registration (SOSS): This is the good news. The goal is that a company will no longer need to register for VAT in 15 different countries to sell in Europe. A single point of contact to manage everything.

Why does this concern YOU?

Because ViDA is not just an IT issue. It’s a data governance issue. If your ERP isn’t ready to extract clean, immediate data, switching to ViDA won’t simplify things—it’ll result in a fiscal “Error 500” (yes, I like that metaphor 😉).

My advice at OBLLIK

Don’t wait for the law to come down before checking the status of your flows. ViDA will transform your compliance from an administrative obligation into a continuous technological process.

And you, what does ViDA mean to you? An opportunity for simplification or a new headache?
